Bedroom Curtains and Blinds

Your private oasis

A place for rest – a sanctuary, a parent’s retreat or maybe a kids play zone. Bedrooms perform many functions and the window coverings you choose should reflect this. Long flowing sheers may look amazing in your Master Bedroom, but could easily be damaged in a children’s bedroom full of toys and games. At night we all need our bedroom curtains and blinds to provide a level of privacy, but what about during the day. If your bedroom is overlooked, or is visible from the street, you may want to consider something to provide additional daytime privacy. And of course, curtains for bedrooms are full of soft furnishings, including bed linen, pillows, cushions and throws, so your bedroom curtains and blinds should co-ordinate beautifully.

Considerations when choosing curtains for bedrooms

Room appropriate – apart from sleeping, how else is the room used, and by whom

Daytime privacy – is the room overlooked, or is it visible from the street

Night time privacy – some options provide greater light blockout as well as privacy

Décor – the window coverings must co-ordinate with the bedroom’s soft furnishings

Curtains for Bedroom

Bedroom sheer curtains

Bedroom sheer curtains

The trend setter

Sheer curtains in a bedroom instantly create a relaxed and sophisticated look. When professionally made and installed, the soft fabrics should layer with the soft furnishings already in the room. Bedroom sheer curtains provide a level of daytime privacy, although ideally need to be paired with a second product in order to create night time privacy. The additional product may be a lining curtain, fitted on a separate track behind the sheer, or a blockout roller blind. Where possible we suggest installing sheer curtains as high as possible in the bedroom. This may be from a track fitted to the ceiling, or if there is a cornice running around the room, from just below the cornice. This height helps to elongate the bedroom by accentuating the full drop of the sheer curtain.

Bedroom Blockout Curtains

As the name suggests

Blockout curtains are designed to do just that – block out the light. This means they are perfect for all types of bedroom areas, providing the best complete night time privacy and light blockout. With over 5000 samples we can help you find the perfect fabric to co-ordinate seemlessly with your bedroom’s soft furnishings and decor. Professionally made blockout curtains for bedrooms will also keep your room cool in summer and better insulated in winter. They don’t however provide any daytime privacy, so if your bedroom is overlooked, or is visible from the street, you may want to consider pairing the curtain with a sunscreen roller blind or sheer curtain.

Bedroom roller blinds

Stylish and efficient

Roller blinds are a practical and durable option for bedrooms and come in 3 main types of fabric (sunscreen, light filtering and blockout) each offering differing levels of light control and privacy. Blockout roller blinds, sometimes referred to as blackout blinds, provide the highest level of light control and night time privacy of the 3 fabric types. Where they should be fitted will depend on the design of your bedroom windows, and if you require a second window covering to offer daytime privacy. To achieve the highest level of light blockout and privacy, the blind should extend past the window opening. This is often done by fitting the blind to the full width of the architrave above the window. Some blockout fabrics however have a white coated backing which means the front and back of the blind are different colours. In this situation fitting a blind to the architrave with a standard back roll, will mean the colour of the roll will stand out from the face colour. To avoid this, we can forward roll the blind and install it into the window recess, however this doesn’t provide quite the same level of light blockout.

Bedroom Venetian Blinds

A true classic

Venetian blinds can offer your bedroom a timeless classic look. Our range of Visionwood timber venetians are available in a range of designer colours to co-ordinate beautifully with your bedroom soft furnishings and décor. With simple to use cord controls the slats can be angled to achieve both daytime and night time privacy. Although a closed venetian blind will offer a good degree of light blockout, the slatted design does allow some light to enter the room.

Bedroom roman blinds

Versatile elegance

The wide range of fabric choices available make roman blinds a great option for bedrooms. They provide excellent night time privacy, and when made to extend beyond the window opening, offer good light blockout. If daytime privacy is an issue, we would suggest adding a sunscreen roller blind behind the roman blind. The wide range of fabrics enable roman blinds to deliver a softer, less contemporary style, which enables them to co-ordinate beautifully with bedroom soft furnishings and decor.

Bedroom Plantation Shutters

Relaxed sophistication

Plantation shutters provide a wonderful luxury finish for any bedroom window. Available in both basswood timber and PVC, they are both beautiful and incredibly practical, making them well suited to a wide range of bedroom environments. Adjusting the louvres controls the light entering the room to maximise daytime and night time privacy as required. Whilst white remains a firm colour favourite with customers, bedroom plantation shutters are available in a range of colours to really enhance and co-ordinate with your bedroom’s soft furnishings.
